GT Marathon Pro

A Test By The Owner Peter Colbert In Albury

Looks

The best looking XC bike I have ever seen. Colour, lines, build quality, everything about the bike looks special.

Components

My other dual suspension XC bike (Giant Anthem 1) has a slightly lower spec, but same brand suspension, so I knew I would like the feel of the handling. However, XTR and XT gears and brakes, what more can I say!? Bloody brilliant! Gear changes are so smooth and precise, it seems you only have to think about it, and the gear change is done. Brakes that are that strong that they really are "one finger" jobs…with plenty of feel to boot! The wheel set too is strong, and all other components on this bike are top notch.

Handling

The GT is not the lightest dual suspension bike I own, however, when you're out riding (up, down, fire-road, single track) you don't notice any weight disadvantage at all. The bike is so forgiving, comfortable and stable that at lower speeds you might think it's a little soft. However, when you push hard, the bike handles as well as you could ever hope for. The steering is direct - not at all loose or sloppy.

You can feel the bike under you is an extension of your body, not just sitting on top of it. Front and rear suspension is sharp but not touchy or quirky-with enough travel to soak up bigger hits without feeling slow in the tight stuff.

All in all, a great trail bike, and a fantastic race bike!

P.S. Did I say how HOT this thing looks?
